Does anyone actually pay the Better Business Bureau's extortion fees? Those people are relentless my wife wants me to pay them just to stop the phone calls (she answers the phones). I aint doing it!

Angie's List is just as bad. Tell them you will take legal action unless they stop, including pressing telephone misuse charges.

Then if they don't shut up, DO IT!

I get at least one call of day from New Jersey from "Google" about keeping my business listing. I finally answered one and they wanted like $180 or so, so I declined. Where I live, no one is going to use Google to find me. Anyway, I still get the calls and I still have a Google listing. Never have paid it. Also,last year I answered about four different ones from around the country and got four different prices. Seems like a scam to me.

Listing your business on Google Local/Maps costs $0. Maps has pretty much replaced my phone book -- and I'm not alone on that front.

The BBB is the model for Angie's List, Service Magic, SuperMedia, Google , Yelp and others of their ilk with their dubious claims to bring you more business if you just pay 'em their Dane Geld.

Paying them will only cause it to continue year after year. Tell um they're nothing more than shake down artists and not to call any more.

Reminds me of the good old days of YellowPages. Every year I received invoices from publishers unaffiliated with phone company. But they resembled phone company's invoice. Marked "this is not a bill". Obviously enough clerks paid so that the business continued.

I'd forgotten about those! Now that you reminded me, it was only about five years ago we stopped getting those scam "yellow pages" not-really-an-invoice-but-looks-like-one fake bills.

Bbb stickers on trucks make laugh. The trucks in my area that have them do not even have people in them that are qualified to sort our tool boxes.

Tell them to put you on their "Do not call" list. Tell them that if there are any future calls, they will be hearing from your attorneys.

There is a company in my area that has had over 20 complaints to the BBB and their BBB rating is A. I have had one complaint from a customer who's house I never stepped foot in. He was going to sue me because as I remember him saying " plumbers can't pick and chose what areas they work in ". I told him I could. My BBB rating C-.

I started about 2 years ago and actually have had 3 jobs as a result form a search through there data base. One of the jobs was quite lucrative and would cover the yearly cost for a few years to come.

Then get the supervisor on the line and give them both barrels. Threaten them with civil and criminal legal action. That's what it took to get them to stop calling us.
