I visited this one last week. It's nearly 100 years old and still running.
Retired and loving it.

I still see these once in a while
though most have had their gas and limit controls upgraded. Looks like that one is pretty much original! What kind of system is it hooked up to- one-pipe? Vapor? All Steamed Up, Inc.

Boiler
Dan
After all these years you’re finally changing your boiler!
Now that’s steam piping0 -
It's a two-pipe Dunham system
Everything is original and in good working order. You would have loved it.Retired and loving it.0 -
Wish it was mine.
It was all very steam-punky in this place. Lots of fun.Retired and loving it.0 -
Looking good..
Amazing that it still works well too. Just goes the show that the old cliche of they don't make things like they used to has a sound basis.0 -
Seen a few of these in
my day. The training at the gas company in the 1960's still included these gas control systems. We eventually changed most of these over to Powerpile Systems.0 -
Mechanical gas controls
Had to go back and look at the first photo again after reading Tim's comment.
Is that just an on/off control, or does it modulate on pressure?0 -
I know it has worked for 100 years
but I had to comment that they never used 6" nipples between the elbow and the header as we insist on today.Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.

A good boiler should last 100 years
This is living proof!!!There was an error rendering this rich post.

Instead of replacing old boiler there was the option of adding economizers to improve efficiency. Old boiler can outlast its replacements.0 -
Economies?
What form do these take? Maybe it would be a coil of water in the flue.--NBC0 -
economizers
In the seventies Fulton offered different models. Governments and GasInstitute helped pay to instal and test. Water tube absolutely required a flow switch to shut down boiler when circulation failed. There was also a fire tube which was supposed to be more robust. In cold weather the issue was what to do with that energy.0
