Go up one pipe size. My ideal location is in a tee at a bend such that the stem points into the flow and the leaving flow goes out the branch. Good turbulence around the bulb too.

I am going to be installing solder type thermowells in my zone return lines for thermometers, and am concerned that the probe intrusion into the T's might have an ill effect on circulation. I was unable to find this addressed anywhere in the archives. Are my concerns unfounded?

Instead of a tee I use a cross, very expensive, as compared to a same size tee but the restriction is less.

Thank you for the input. The step up in size seems to be just the ticket for us. Thanks again.
