5-ton Trane system, 0.8 TESP, blower failed after ~2 years — how concerned should I be?

Those 4" filters the OP mentioned earlier are supposed to be very low pressure drop. Unless it's loaded up pretty good, it might not have a large impact on the TESP.
But you should still measure.

I found out with mine that it's a lot more than you'd expect when you're working with a total of 0.5" being allowed.
I'm running a 20x25x5" merv 8 at 1200 and even that becomes noticeable as it loads up. But on a 5 ton system you'd be at .23 with a new merv 8 filter. With a MERV 11 you're at 0.30. and this is for a 5" filter not a 4".
Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

Reading through this as a fellow homeowner was a real education — I went through something similar when our tech measured high static on our system, and the fix wasn't what I expected. In our case the biggest offender was the return side: one undersized return drop plus a filter setup that wasn't as free-flowing as advertised. Once the return was opened up and we switched to a less restrictive filter, the numbers dropped a lot and the system got noticeably quieter.
One thing I'd add from the homeowner side: ask the tech to walk you through where the probes go and what each reading means. When ours explained it, it became obvious why measuring in the wrong spot (like in front of a closed door instead of across the filter) gives you a number that doesn't mean what you think it means. The advice above to get a proper TESP test taken across the equipment is spot on — everything else is guesswork until you have that.0
