It has a plastic spinner on the end. It keeps the probe clean with the spinning action
it moves with the water flow thru the pipes, not so good on a steamer.

Something I find interesting is all of the times Paul has said the Hartford loop doesn't save or protect anything.
If he's right that means the LWCO and proper maintenance are all that more important.
That's something that should be an easy sell in my opinion. I know I sleep good at night knowing my lwco works.
Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

I liked the water chemistry comment at the end. A very good reminder for maintaining proper water chemistry. Thanks @RayWohlfarth

I have always said the LWCO is the real hero but the Hartford Loop gets all the credit (even when it doesn't prevent dry firing)

always good to be reminded of potential hazards if quality maintenance persons aren’t being utilized.

Most older boilers have a Mc D level control that must be blown off each week or month at least. If the McD fails due to mud in the bowl, the low water will catch the failure. If the low water fails as well, the boiler cooks. See it all the time. Proper monitoring and maintenance testing and cleaning will avoid a MAJORITY of boiler failures I observe.
