in Strictly Steam

I have a one pipe steam System. I have a one and a half pipe going from the basement to a second floor bedroom. Right now this bedroom has a baseboard heat unit converted to steam. There in a 1 1/2 to 3/4 adapter on the pipe. My new radiator has 1 inch pipe. can I bump that 3/4 adapter up to 1 inch by just getting a adapter, 3/4 to 1", or do I have to remove that 1 1/2 to 3/4 fitting on the main pipe and replace with a 1 1/2 to 1" adapter.

Your help with this would be greatly appreciated

    the fitting is a 90 that ties in to a 1 1/2 inch pipe and then drops straight to the basement. Thanks for the advise. will do my best to crack that fitting free.

    If it is malleable iron, it won’t crack. If it is cast iron, it will. Left is cast. Right is malleable

    You should actually have a 1" radiator union so you don’t need to break it apart when it is time for service in the future. Maybe like this.

    After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

    i think they mean unscrew. but if it won't unscrew cutting almost to the threads hen splitting it with a chisel or sometimes even a screwdriver will release it

    What is the problem with the bedroom radiation? Does it get hot or not? Please explain why you want to change the size of the piping. Most baseboard radiation does not work well when connected to 1 pipe steam systems. Add a picture of the radiation so we can give recommendations and explain just what the problem is.
