Cast iron Radiator hole

Hi

I got given a set of cast iron Radiators. Was hoping to get someone opinions on moving forward. So I work in a fab shop and I am a welder so I have access to industrial machinery. I put this radiator through an industrial sandblasting machine and came out with a small hole on one of the columns. I would like to repair it so it lasts if that’s possible. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix ? Thanks

braze it

you could also drill it out and tap a 1/8" npt plug in it.

are you using this for steam or hot water?

you can buy that style of radiator new from castrads. you can buy a slightly fancier radiator that style from us boiler.

I’m based in the Uk. I will be using it for hot water so the pressure won’t be going above 1-1.5 bar

Castrads is based in the UK. They have offices in the US but I bet your delivery cost is less than we pay!!

If I wanted to buy new I would have. I am simply wanting some advice on different options to fix and weigh them out. I was given these and told to try my best. Always got to be someone like you in the comments

Listen to the pro @DanHolohan . A relatively small hole, a low pressure application, and you've cleaned the surface prefectly for adhesion by sandblasting. Some JB Weld will last forever.

I didn't mean to anger you. When someone mentioned Castrads you responded that you were in the UK which made me think you must have thought Castrads was in the US. Please forgive me my hideous transgression, I feel shame.

@mattmia2 suggests drill and tap. A very good idea. From the look of it, you can probably tap the hole without needing any drilling. In viewing the picture a 1/8" or 1/4" tap should do it with the appropriate sized plug?

or any small bolt with JB weld under the head.

a plug or series of plugs with a certain loctite formula is how they fix cracks in ci engine blocks.
