Rheem Furnace Blower Motor Groaning on Startup
HI, I have a Rheem furnace that was installed when my house was built 22 years ago. The model# is RGRA-10EZAJS. Over the last five or so years I have noticed when the main blower motor starts up it is making a groaning sound for about 5 seconds and then it runs perfectly. Several years ago, I asked my brother-in-law who at that time was a technician, and he said it is probably your motor and it could last another year or ten years.
Well, over the past several months it is getting loader and loader. I have a new motor coming in the next couple days and before I installed it, I was wondering if anyone could possibly weigh in to confirm it's the motor.
THANK YOU in advance
Steve

grab the motor shaft and try to move it up and town and from front to back, i bet you'll find a ton of up and down play in the bearing where is it holding up the weight of the blower wheel. those motors usually have sleeve bearings which need re-oiling every few years but they are sold as maintenance free so after 20 years or so the bearings dry out and get worn.
