Anyone think i might be able to fine a washer maybe packing washer or stem for this valve? I don't want to try to remove the valve. It 100 years old. If something should break where it connects i am in deep do do. I am going to have to drain down the system to replace a gauge. the packing nut can be removed.

    just change it hold back on fitting and you shoud be fine

    Why? A brass valve usually comes out of a galvanized tee easily.

    The stem looks pretty chewed, I doubt you will find a replacement without taking it out and shopping.

    Washer and also the seats go bad, not all seats are replaceable.

    do you need the bib washer or the packing washer? the bib washer should be a standard size, the packing washer can be replaced with string packing. that boiler drain doesn't appear to be all that old relatively speaking.

    You could try opening it then getting some Teflon tape, twirl it up, pack it in, tighten everything back up, and see if it stops leaking. Not sure what’s wrong looking at the picture but maybe that will work.

    my guess the bib. when that first started tighing the packing nut did help

    where is it leaking, is it leaking from the packing or the spout?

    Do not waste your time trying to rebuild. It will come right out. As others have suggested, use two wrenches. Have new drain cock prepped and ready to install.

    sometimes the path to the experience to replace it is rebuilding a few first.

    you could also just put a hose thread cap on it if it is leaking from the spout. you can put a cap on it and deal with it when the heating season is over.

    When I worked on an irrigation crew in Oregon on a grass seed farm in the 80's, insects would get into the sprinkler orifices seeking water when the sprinklers were off. When we turned the sprinklers on, the orifice clogged and because of tight scheduling, we couldn't turn the water off and had to change out the orifice live. We got wet, but typically, it was 100 degrees and it felt good.

    8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour

    Two btu per sq ft for degree difference for a slab

    it is leaking from around the stem

    if tightening the packing nut didn't stop that leak, while holding the valve closed, back off the packing nut, shove an inch to a couple inches of string packing in there and tighten it back down.

    The stem appears damaged, and it's missing its handle. Replace it with one of these quarter-turn boiler drains. Doing so will eliminate any questions and future headaches.

    Hit it with PB blaster a few times a day for a few days and it came out like it wanted to! Thanks for the help everyone.
