Burnham millivolt replacement gas valve, part discontinued?

I have an older Burnham (40 years old in very good condition) gas boiler with a millivolt gas valve. I am not keeping a pilot so I naturally replaced the thermopile. That did not do the trick. I have it lit for a good minute to heat up the tip nice and hot and when I let go, pilot goes out. Therefore it is the gas valve.

I tried to source the Burnham part # 81660062 but the part is discontinued. The model is a Honeywell VS820C1274 that I have. When I called my local supply house, they said they carry a replacement but they haven't received them from their distributor yet-they have been on order for a few weeks. Can someone tell me what is a suitable replacement valve for this system? I think its a Robertshaw 700-507 gas valve but it could also be the 700-506. I have 1/2" inlet and 3/4" outlet on the valve.

    Just because the gas valve won’t open doesn’t mean it’s bad. There may be a safety or control that’s breaking the circuit to it. Also, a bad connection in the wiring may be the cause.

    Do you have a multi meter and know how to use it to diagnose circuitry?

    I have a multi meter. I know a little bit of circuitry testing. How can there be a bad connection in in the wiring? There's been no other changes to my boiler. I did try disconnecting the wires going from the gas valve to the aquastat. The pilot should still stay lit and not be dependent on the other controls like low water (or at least that is what I assume). Pilot should stay lit, it just wouldn't open up to run position. I know there are magnets inside those gas valves that can get stuck. I tried giving it a few bangs on the side. That didn't help.

    You need to start by measuring the output of the thermopile. You may have a bad replacement or there might be a problem with the pilot burner or where it is located in the pilot burner.

    You will need a good gas tech if you replace the valve to set it up properly.

    The parts you may need are available. You will have to search for them as millivolt is not common for boilers any longer. @Tim McElwain

    There are also two milivolt systems: one is 450 milivolt and the other is 750. If you installed a 450 milivolt pilot generator on a 750 milivolt system, then you won’t get enough voltage.
