Cold in upstairs bedroom
hi
We have a one pipe steam boiler system. trying to figure out how to get our bedroom radiator to keep our bedroom warm at night. We have the thermostat set to about 68/69 thru the day which is fine, but the upstairs at night gets to about 65. The radiator doesn’t really kick on since the downstairs temp is maintained. Only thing I’ve been doing is kicking it up one degree before bedtime to allow the boiler to kick on and generate some heat In that room. Any easier way to go about this? I wonder if when it gets colder the boiler will be cycling more and the room will be warmer?
thanks

Does that radiator ever get hot? Like if the system runs long enough it eventually heats up? What vent is on it? Is that vent opening? Can you tell? Is the valve to the radiator fully open? How far up the pipe to the radiator does it get hot?

yes it gets hot and works great when it runs long enough . I have a #5 Gorton style vent. New vent. Valve is open fully.

That's good. What it suggests, though is that the problem isn't so much that the upstairs doesn't heat fast enough — but that the downstairs heats too fast. What vents are on the downstairs radiators?

as a test cover the downstairs radiators with a towel or blanket as a test.

Slow the venting on the rads in the room where the thermostat is. Make very small adjustments at a time.

Also check the main vents in the basement.
