Can I use 1" black pipe for a 10' runout (couterflow) supplying 1 small radiator?
Need to run several short branches to individual rads on the 1FL. Runouts will have good pitch and span < 10' before a swing joint and short riser. Want to confirm I can use 1" diameter black pipe for these short runs. Rads are all < 25 EDR. Book says I'm good for up to 28 EDR.

Probably want to insulate it but it should be good. Might need more vent on the radiator. the smaller pipe will heat faster and have less air to vent.

Good pitch will be critical. Don't skimp.

Your right on the border line. Should go to 1 1/4" to be sure but if you can get plenty of pitch your probably ok.
Keep the 90s to a minimum. 45s are better. Make sure the tees coming off the mains are on a 45 to the branch.

All of the horizontal runouts in my house are 1 1/4", even a tiny 16sqft radiator.
Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

Yep, runouts will insulated. The plan is to vent each branch through a tee at the top of the riser.

Same here, but then you see all the crap work they did and you wonder if that was actually based on thought or convention. I'll use 1-1/4" if I need to, but if 1" will do the job, i see no reason to pay for and lift heavier pipe than is necessary. I'm still weighing this out.

Also a chance all they had in my case was 2x2x1.25" tees.
