Paint on black iron?

Does anyone paint black iron pipes to deter surface rust? If so, with what? I thought maybe Rustoleum high heat spray.

This would be for near boiler piping, and I would tape off the threads so as not to paint them. Just thought it would look better than eventual surface rust.

Lipstick on a pig? And since you are going to insulate them, I hope why paint at all?

You can paint them with Rustoleum. The pipe comes from the factory with sort of a protective coating that tends to burn off when the pipe is used on steam.

    clean the pipe

    wire brush off any rust
    Then you can paint it

Is it worth all the trouble……. No

Thanks for the comments. @Jamie Hall I didn't think of that and I have a lot of insulation I need to do. @pecmsg yeah, probably not worth trouble. Almost everything is copper anyway.
