whats the proper rod size for a 2” iron clevis hanger? Im assuming 3/8 would work fine but thought Id better check if it needs to be larger.

⅜" is fine until you get to Really Heavy. It'll be fine for something that small.

3/8" is fine up to 2" and commonly used for larger sizes although 2 1/2" black would technically require 1/2" rod.

Because of the weight differences between plastic, copper and black pipe the hole or threaded portion of hangers will vary with the material being installed

Recommended maximum support span between hangers - and rod sizes for straight horizontal pipes.

Most often, in plumbing, you will find the hanger does the sizing for you. A two-inch iron clevis serving a two-inch ID pipe will more often than not offer a 3/8" rod. The larger the pipe, the larger the rod requirement.

If memory serves, 3/8" will commonly stop somewhere at two or two and a half inches, and then the rod size increases from somewhere around that size.
