sounds right. this is an old farm auctiin with an incredible amount of stuff from days long gone. quite a few old foot start 2 cylindeh gas engines snd old cast floor grates from coal fired hot air

Simplex was also the name brand of movie film projectors. The section that actually projected the pictures. It had an intermittent gear box that would pause the film for the projection. 24 frames per second.

pretty sure all film projectors have to do that, that is why there's that loop before and after the gate.

Any I have seen do that.
The sound head below the Simplex head was made by RCA IIRC.
Some had a magnetic pick up head that went above the projector head.
Several tracks for much better sound.

it depends on the system. super 8 usually used magnetic sound if it had sound. industrial 16mm usually used optical sound. 35 mm i think is usually optical sound and 70 mm usually is magnetic sound.

I design/work on classroom and auditorium AV systems. I have only run film once and that was in testing a 16 mm projector that we loaned someone that I think was using it to transfer films they had to video. I have run a lot of projection but that was with video projectors.
