Rap wrench is just a chunky bossing you can Whale on with a lump hammer. This white wrench looks like it has "wings" that allow the wrench to stand up on it's own so you can use the opposing wrench in a scissor bite. I love it..Yes..Ridgid tool should definitely offer this....Mad Dog

Retired guy. When I need to get a really tight screw fitting off a loose piece of pipe with no Ridgid Tristand around, I'll lay a wrench in it's back like that and then scissor bite the joint.
Alot of times, the wrench on its back will move or fall over. This white wrench with the Wings is perfect for this. Mad Dog

More expensive than a wrench, but less expensive than a Tristand, and easier to carry. They also make a less expensive but heavier steel version.

It would be good for the jobs where you need a vise but don't have one or don't want to bring one in from the truck for 2-3 fittings.
And then there is this which if I was still working I think I would get one

I was just going to ask if any of you guys use these…just like the one Ed just linked.
I have used the two wrenches method on the floor of my basement laboratory to re-use fittings (I know a real pipefitter would never reuse a fitting but I'm not real 😅) and it's not great!

I have flipped Tristands over trying to get 3 & 4 inch fittings apart. Unless you have another two pound plus helper to stand on the Tristand, you're dying . Mad Dog

I couldn't do this now but when I was young and stupid we were installing a large gas burner in a big chain grocery store.
We had to shut down the meter and have this all preplanned for night work.
When we went to tie in at the meter we couldn't un thread a 3" coupling with 3 footers. The pipe unthreaded at the next joint down the line. Fine , we will take the whole thing down and put it in the vise.
Still couldn't unthread it. We needed to get it apart and save the fitting cause it was after hours etc and didn't have any more fittings.
We ended up with it in the vise a 3' wrench with a 2 1/2" 21' cheater on it and the other guy holding the vise down with another pipe as a lever.
I am glad no one saw us we must have looked like total idiots

Yeah.."idiots" that got the gas back on by daybreak...Been in that spot many, many times..It's extremely high pressure when you have to get a very popular Steakhouse we've all heard of back.on.line overnight..Or The Rainbow Room...."Tony Bennett will be here at 630 to serenade the breakfast guests....Make sure the hot water is restored! " oh boy....We have alot of stress on us in this business....Perform or lose contract & client. Mad Dog

I see lots of great innovations in tools. "Hey, that looks like it would be great!," I say. But more often than not, I search for the maker and find the thing is made in China. Just more junk that's gonna break, hurt me, slip or bend and not gonna last.
Why don't some of these great idea people spend a couple of extra bucks making a quality tool that won't break, round out fittings or hurt a real mechanic who tries to use it? They might even sell some.
Most of these new ideas are just workers' comp claims if you give them to the men to use.

It's just not true that China only makes junk. I remember when people used to say exactly the same thing about Japanese cars, steel, guitars, and motorcycles in the 70s.
But nobody would say the Japanese make junk today, their products are highly thought of, even those same ones from the 70s that people called junk.
China makes stuff EXACTLY to the specification of the American and other international companies that contract with them. They make the finest computers, the finest smartphones, the best drones and so many electronic components. They right now are making an electric car that is so good the US had to make it illegal for fear of the competition.
When China makes junk it is because some American company asked them to. OK some of their junk is of their own doing, but you get my point I hope.
PS: I have an image of @EBEBRATT-Ed jumping on the end of a 20 foot pipe

It wasn't pretty. It took a month to get that shutdown scheduled and I was always pretty good at looking at any unforeseen obstical. Guess I missed one that time.
