I have an old underground water line 3/4 thick wall brass pro press and shark bite won’t fit over it I need to get a coupler to connect it to CTS maybe a compression fitting?

    Compression or thread the end.

Does Sharkbite even make a fitting that goes over Pipe? Mad Dog

I’m thinking this our water company uses them I don’t own a pipe threader I can get into that hole I’m not sure but think this is what’s originally on there

it is ips, you have to thread it or use a dresser coupling or megapress

a 7/8 acr fitting would probably slip over it and yo could sweat it.

    edit:

er, maybe not, i was thinking 3/4 hard copper. ips is going to be a bigger od. you could probably swedge something to fit with the right tools

I own two pro press and have mega press jaws but question is will a 3/4 mega fit over the outside of this pipe because a sharbite does not

the sharkbite is copper pipe size, not ips right? you can measure the od. megapress will fot ips.

    here are the sizes:

if it is 3/4" ips the od should be about 1.05". there were also some local brass pipe standards, i think the most common one was used mostly in Boston.

@mattmia2 yes correct a 3/4 wouldn’t fit over but I’m sure an ips 3/4 would I can try mega press or that pack connector but I’m out of both the customer will have to wait until Monday everything is closed who would have those in stock and my buddies are out of them thx

it looks like there is a sharkbite designed for pvc that is ips but the outside might not be smooth enough for it to seal.

you could thread it but old brass tends to become brittle so it might crack if you try to do it with a die. a thread mill could probably do it but those aren't exactly portable.

They used to make adapters to go from Brass to Copper that you could sweat. One end was made to fit over brass pipe.

I think they were only made in smaller sizes and may not be available any longer.

You can buy a IPS water service adapter that will fit right over the brass. You need to make sure you specify IPS and not copper or else it wont fit over the pipe.
