Furnace/standing pilot turns off after Furnace starts if Cover Panel is not removed.

Can't locate Flame Sensor, 40 year old model BLU 055e924b1, s/n y05507976.

Anyone know where sensor is?

    Pictures?

If removing the cover makes it stop it is probably some sort of combustion problem unless the pilot flame is just too small.

Probably a thermocouple or mercury flame switch if it is standing pilot.

at 40 years old you really need to get that heat exchanger checked.

I will also invest in low level non-UL approved CO detectors

technically that would fall under "some sort of combustion problem"

If the flame changes when the blower comes on it is done.

at 40 years you should have someone that understands combustion look at it.

just two days ago, we had a 37 year old furnace replaced with a properly sized, 90% efficiency unit. The performance improvement is phenomonal.

The heat exchanger on the old unit looked great but you should still consider replacing yours. You will apppreciate the fuel savings and reliability.
