It looks like you need to use a wrench rather then pliers ….

There was an error rendering this rich post.

Wrench are too big to fit here :(

Do I have to grab one piece while turning the other?

The brass plug the gauge is mounted on has 1/4" pipe threads. It appears to be threaded into a 1/4 X 3/4" iron reducer bushing. If you remove the reducer bushing from the tee, the gauge will come with it.

I assume you are wanting to replace the gauge with a new one. When you do, use a new reducer bushing too. In addition to iron, these bushings are available in brass and stainless steel too.

Some heat might help getting these fittings apart.

Heat on whichever part of the assembly you want to leave in place.

And use a wrench which fits! Not vise grips. Not pliers. Not a pipe wrench. A Crescent wrench if you have to, but a fixed jaw wrench if you can get one which fits.

Loooks like the gauge is to marred up for a wrench to grip it.

Either remove the bushing (use 2 pipe wrenches, 1 for a back up) or if you have a small pipe wrench like and 8" that might fit on the gauge with a cheater pipe on it

Most gauges take a 9/16 open end wrench.

I presume you are finished with that gauge otherwise you would not remove it.

So, take a big pipe wrench and put it on the OD of the gauge. Probably break it away from the the brass connection and now you have plenty of room to work. You could then get a decent pipe wrench on the brass connection and it will come right out of the bushing.
