Who is obsessing or overthinking about their boiler the most?

For the last two months, I have been enjoying a conversation with some homeowners that are trying to solve problems without professional help.  I do this because in some cases there are no qualified professionals in their area.  Other times I believe they have the ability to DIY things that a professional might walk away from. Whatever the reason, every once and awhile a ridiculous question might come up that makes me laugh because a season pro like myself “Just Knows” the answer without really knowing how he knows it  (Im reminded of how Gill Carlson learned about the point of no pressure change.  His answer was “I always knew it”)

On one conversation a question came up, and I commented this:

@seized123 is over thinking again?

Then I got this response from @seized123

Yes, I believe I might be overthinking. Maybe. So I found an app and I provided the info and it calculated that I am overthinking by 37%. But then I thought, can I trust that app? And I found another, and also a website with a calculator, and if I average all the results I am 28.7% overthinking. But how do I know any of them are trustworthy? What methods do they use? Hmm ….🙃

He obviously has a sense of humor.

So I thought that this poll was appropriate.

I have included @CoachBoilermaker& @seized123, but then I thought of the man with the video channel should be included @ethicalpaul.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

    Ethical Paul wins hands down. If only 1/2 of one percent of his posts are about his own boiler, then he still has over 300 posts on his list

    The other two are well below that.

    Overthinking is better than the alternative!

    Actually I like Ethical Paul's evidence-based way of thinking or overthinking, and I don't imagine I'm overthinking this 😉

    I was referring to homeowners that are posting about their systems.  Then after you give them the answer you believe will get them on the right track, they come up with another scenario or Hypothetical. OR Video. LOL

    I only reefer to my system to prove a point. Not to ask if i'm right about something… That's a given🤣😎🤣😎🤣😎

    In addition to my ever-expanding 'boilertron' setup (1, 2, 3), I even built a physics-based simulator of my home heating system so I can replay past winters and simulate different control schemes second-by-second to hyper-optimize my boiler - and I didn't even warrant an honorable mention? I'll have to try harder this season 😔

    @fentonc , you are definitely a candidate for this poll. I wish I could edit more folks into the mix.

    Can I add Dean (I did a significant and complex radiant install with snowmelt and IDWH from a gas boiler with integrated outdoor wood boiler for him 2 years ago)? Dude has called me several hundred times now (yes, hundred- that is NOT an exaggeration) to ask how everything works and/or complain that something doesn't work because he touched it. The most recent was that the gas boiler wouldn't fire. I show up to find that somebody turned the wood boiler aquastat down to room temp so the TT switch was open. Obviously "nobody touched it", but it literally can't be turned without tools. The time before that was a gas leak, which turned out to be a sunflower heater on a 20lb cylinder stored in the mechanical room.

    Everybody has at least one of those customers. I find that creative invoicing tends to quiet those customers.
