Our emergency steam boiler replacement in Brooklyn last week looked like this:
I know you hate my Mega Press fittings but I'm starting to love them when in a bind.

What size are those mega press fittings?

This may be one of the last EGH installs we see- the EGH has disappeared from W-M's site.

Yes! I’m going to miss the EGH. It was the only atmospheric gas-steam tankless coil boiler.
They must’ve ramped up production at some point though because I’m having no trouble finding them in any configuration. This is the fourth one I’ve installed this year.Contact John "JohnNY" Cataneo, NYC Master Plumber, Lic 1784

About the same as the fitting from Rigid, $75 from harbor freight.

An aluminum 48" wrench for $75?
Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

Looks like a 36" for $54 is the biggest harbor freight has:

Not far off from $75, I'd try it

I have noticed the "off brand " wrenches don't bite the pipe well and can slip. Use with caution.
Kinda a "you get what you pay for" situation. 😉

Agreed. Off-brand wrenches are not an option anymore in this shop. Not for cheap. Not for free.

There not as expensive as you'd think. Worth every penny and you really canr get around using them. I have sone aluminums but I prefer Iron. They hold up better to a cheater bar and the extra weight means you use less muscle and tendon...Mad Dog

Anyone else noticing that John doesn't paint an inch of each pipe end white or blue with pipe dope? This is how professional work looks.

That pipe wrench reminds me of this scene from Crocodile Dundee:

The megapress fittings are not that expensive when you pay your crew well. Think about the time and energy it takes to set up and make three inch threads. Plus the mess and more cranking with three and four foot pipe wrenches. For the record, go price domestic three inch steel nipples and cast iron fittings. You might be surprised how much these items cost these days.
For our small company, time is money. Spend a little extra on materials and save a lot of time, that's a win in my book.
Nice work John.

May be true but Viega does the same thing Victaulic does in a way.
Victaulic for large pipe figures out the cost of doing the job welded (which is labor intensive) and prices there fittings to be just below that.
I am sure Viega does the same thing for threaded pipe.
There prices are obscene

They know what they've got that's for sure! 😂 Word on the street is that a few manufacturers are poised to start producing products to compete with the megapress line soonish . So hopefully that helps to lower prices at least a little bit like we have seen with copper press fittings now that everyone can make one.
