Blown Trans
my guy missed the grounded 3 wire to a nest, smoked the trans as he was replacing the control. So now we have a new control with a dead trans. I called Taco to see if we can get another trans and was politely told “no”. Hmmmm OK. Anyone have a source ? Thanks

I thought those were modular and you could put 1 or 2 transformers in them. Maybe look at the model that does have the modular xfmr and see if the xfmr for that is the same. Could always just buy an appropriate xfmr and wire nut it. If one of the leads is connected to ground then match that up.

Bigger than the one they used but should work if it physically fits
https://www.supplyhouse.com/Taco-ZVCXFR-001RP-Replacement-Transformer-for-Valve-ControlsSince they are both class 2 it shoudln't be an issue overcurrent wise substituting the larger xfmr.

OK yes I see various trans on amazon and such, I was trying hard to have the 'proper' leads, but scru it! Thanks all

I really thought there was an xfmr for the one that could have one or 2 xfmrs that had those connectors on it.

I've had some luck with buying housings & crimp pins (& usually another crimper!) to roll my own connectors when I can't source the connector/part.
Unfortunately for me, the local electronics store where I found all these parts at closed it's local branch & consolidated operations about an hour's drive from here. I still may end up there from time to time.

Yes, same here, when the local Radio Shack closed, I gasped a small bit. But the Amazon machine comes through here and there. I get it——small mom-pop suppliers for our stuff are going away because we all buy stuff online. I think everyone is in survival mode. I'll do what I gotta do.

@HVACNUT indeed, I’m a little OCD, want to have things original OEM. But if Taco says no, fine and dandy.

You could use the 1/4" qc xfmr and put insulated 1/4" terminals on the original harness and it would look like it is supposed to be that way.

I've done that and the biggest trans VA is 30VA which I bought from Supplyhouse. com. A larger trans will not allow the cover to be properly put back on. I cut the wires from the old trans close to the bad trans and I did pop rivet the new trans on after drilling the old rivet out. I wire nutted the wire leads from the board to the new trans. walla!

any 40va transformer will work. Save the pigtail and wire nut connections
Hopefully this helps

Joe, yes, fitting inside the enclosure is the snag
