Old Peerless boiler not working

Before rewiring id flood the boiler and make sure its sound.

That is a commercial size boiler 1,050,000 BTU input. The replacement for that boiler is the Peerless 211A and that comes equipped with a number of different gas trains. As simple as a single 24 VAC gas valve and as many as six 120 VAC gas valves.

The plate indicates that this boiler was AGA approved byt no I=B=R rated, so it is quite old.

• Is this a Water boiler or a Steam boiler?
• Is the LWCO mechanical or electronic?
• Are there 2 aquastats? An operator and a High limit
• Does the High Limit Aquastat have a manual reset?
• Is there a thermostat in the occupied space?
• The item you though is a pilot proving switch is actual a gas pressure switch.
• Do you have any limit switch or fuse near the burner door at the bottom? That is called a flame roll out switch.
• Do you have any limit switch or fuse near the draft hood? That would be called a spill switch.
• Is there a circulator (or zone circulators) that need to be operated by thermostats
• Is this in a commercial building that requires special code inspections like FM or IRI? That will change the wiring requirements.

Absent the need for additional gas valves with additional safety requirements this is the bare minimum I would do for wiring the boiler for operation assuming a 24 VAC gas valve.

If there is money to be made on this job and you can convince the customer that you need to bring any new wiring up to the current standard requirements then you can get them to pay for electronic ignition and a new gas valve that does not have the pilot safety built in, you can suggest this diagram But add the spill switch and the rollout switch.

The next thing you will want to consider is the operation protocol.  

• Boiler maintains temperature all season at 180°
• Boiler maintains temperature based on outdoor temperature
• Boiler is cold start and only fires when there is a call for heat
• When does the circulator operate?
• Are there already zone valves in place?
• Are there any thermostats in any occupied spaces?

With the answers to these questions, you can design the most efficient operation for the application of that equipment.

i think it might be a low gas pressure shutoff switch for LP.
