Oops! Must be a plastic drain. With cast it's a straightforward fix even with poured joins. How would one do that with plastic? Cut it out with a router?EBEBRATT-Ed said:Didn't square the flange holes with the wall.

It would be great if we could assume that anytime we saw something like this it was done by an unlicensed individual.NJ Steam Homeowner. See my sight glass boiler videos: https://bit.ly/3sZW1el4

It's probably not even bolted to the flange (floor). Of course, it could be covering up a cracked tile. Works for me.0

You could drill the floor and install threaded "shields" and use hanger bolts to hold the toilet. Thread the screw end into the "shield" and use a nut on the other end to hold the toilet. "Shazam", problem fixed. Ace Hardware sells them in a set of 2 in brass. See item #43037. I am sure that any hardware store or outlet sell similar items.1

I just pulled one of my vintage toilets (flushmetered) and it had four bolts into the floor - two into the flange and two long post screws into the concrete floor. The other toilet only had two at the flange - I'm assuming they are both original to the late 20's, but maybe it was replaced in one of the weird renovations that were - somewhat badly - done over the years.0

@ChicagoCooperator usually there is a date stamped in the porcelain somewhere inside/underneath. I think the 4 bolt was common through the 50's or so, first all 4 bolts in the floor just holding it over the flange and later with 2 studs in the flange.0
