Thermostat change, now furnace won't work

Hello, We attempted to change the thermostat to a Nest, learned it was not compatible. Put old thermostat back, appears to be working, clicks as if heating, but thermostat will not kick on.

How many wires are going into the thermostat? Are you sure they are hooked up the same as before? (taking a before picture is very very helpful but it might be too late)
