Can a 60's steam boiler be retrofitted with newer burners and gas controls?

Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

FWIW, had my 28 year old Utica gas boiler replaced 2 years ago. No issues with it but felt like every year the odds were moving against me for a failure. Best thing i ever did. Replaced with a Peerless and first winter my gas usage dropped by 25%. Peace of mind plus lower energy usage is a win-win for me.0
