You don't need no equalizer line & Hartford with our boiler

Comment from a scotch firetube mfr tech support. He referenced that that's old school thinking from the early 1900s when boilers were exploding. He commented that with all the redundant low waters & safeties etc that it is not needed on their boiler. I was questioning this as this boiler was installed by another company and not how I would have piped it. This is strictly pumped return with all returns coming back to feed tank.
Any comments ? I think there might be!

    I have seen a few scotch marine boiler in my day and it's true most of them do not have an equalizer or a Hartford loop, especially with a pumped return.

    A Hartford Loop is replaced by a check valve when a condensate return pump is used.

    I am not sure I have ever seen a Hartford Loop on a scotch marine boiler.

    Here's one from Burnham that does show an equalizer with a pumped return. See Pg. #14

    Even though the manufacturer says these are not needed, an inspector might still require them. Check with your local Code officials.

    Hartford not needed with a pumped return but draining the header is a good idea. True that the local inspector may have other ideas

    I'm with The Steamer & Ed, maybe no H Loop, but an Eqaulizer is advised AND Most inspectors are looking for that...If nothing else, an equalizer allows natural flow and thermal turnover when the boiler is firing.  All am advantage.  You don't have to like it, but butting heads with the inspector is alot like arguing with the Cop that pulls you over:  Big attitude = more tickets $$$.
