We've been installing quite a few of the new Burnham SteamMax boilers since they've been out. We like them for jobs that are > 400 EDR.
The only thing we dislike about these boilers (and there is a lot to like), is that the supply tappings are only 2", for all sizes. And the lack of a tankless coil option, which is quite strange, given all the R&D.
Burnham gets around the 2" tapping problem on the larger sizes by increasing the number of tappings/risers. Beginning at 890 EDR to 1012 EDR, there are 3 risers. Above that, up to 1400 EDR, there are 4 risers.
We haven't landed a 4-riser job yet. But we are currently building a STMX350, with 3 risers. We thought we'd share, as it's looking pretty cool...

Why do you only like them for jobs over 400sqft?
What about jobs under that?Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

Under 400 we like the Weil EG or Peerless 63. Better price point, and two tappings. Only one supply tapping on the smallest SteamMax unitsNew England SteamWorks

So instead of making sections with different size tappings they just use more sections with a tapping so they just need end and 2 center sections. Also helps the steam get out closer to where it is generated.

Yes, we love the Steamax as well. I TRIED years ago to get my Beloved Burnham to atleast give us 2 1/2" Take offs..I even plied the Great Glenn Stanton of Burnham (RIP) with To Shelf Liquor!!! He did ask! This is an outstanding job your doing N.E. Steamer.
You're Old School Bro! Great to see. I usually blow up right out of the Gate with a Ward (USA) Steam Concentric Reducer after a short nipple and union on each. I have a Picture of a 500 from Last Year. Really nice job, man..Keep up the Old School Pride! Mad Dog 🐕0 -

I almost fell on the floor when I got the bill for that Header and near boiler piping. It had jumped like 250% in 6 months...Brutal...Mad Dog 🐕1
