The case of the broken boiler, this Fridays case

I think this is going to be an easy case. We started a new boiler we sold. The general contractor needed to get heat in the newly constructed building so the drywallers could finish the walls. After starting the boiler, checking the safety controls, and adjusting the air to fuel ratio, we left. A few weeks later, we were called by the mechanical contractor who installed the boiler. he said the new boiler wasn't working. When I arrived, the boiler had a broken temperature control hanging from two wires on the front of the boiler. The boiler was covered with white dust and the burner linkages were bent down at an odd angle. What happened to the boiler? I'll not comment till Friday when the video is released.

I love when you get a service call that neglects to mention that the customer/someone damaged it themselves (I used to work in photocopier repair and saw this a lot)

I think they dropped a sheet of drywall on it.

@ratio You were correct. The insulator stood on the boiler and broke the control and bent the burner linkages. When I talked with the mechanical contract or, he just waved it off and said it should be under warranty
@ethicalpaul Yeah he forgot to mention that and then said if I didnt fix it for free, I would not get paid for the boiler
    thanks everyone

…When I talked with the mechanical contract or, he just waved it off and said it should be under warranty…

    🤦‍♂️

While I can't say I've never submitted questionable warranty claims, I can't understand why vendors keep honoring the more obvious ones.

Our contracts usually have a clause that says something along the lines of contractor shall protect equipment from worksite damage.

@ratio @ethicalpaul Believe me if he wasn't holding the money for the boiler, I would not have been so charitable. I did fix it for free and it still chaffs me. Every once in while you get some real jerks on the job site. Thankfully, the good ones far outweigh the bad ones.
