At least the air would be filtered by bubbling thru water if it gets there at all.
I have seen the same result for cond/feeder pumps being relied upon to vent air.
But the "dry" returns became "wet" returns because of bad replacement repairs.0 -

It's a "wet whistle"!0

Maybe that's a 1948 Maid-O-Mist No. 95 Auto Vent Humidifier on it. It sprays boiler condensate into the room. The instructions say you can add peppermint oil to the asbestos pad if it smells bad. Adjustable too!
