Wiring zone valve in Crown Boiler AWR series

Hello everyone. I purchased a new gas boiler(Crown AWR series) and replaced my old one recently. I am very happy with its efficiency. However, I need help finding a solution to wiring it to my old zone valve. I only have one circulator and 3 zone valves which are Honeywell v8043s. Now I open all zones manually and use one thermostat temporarily. But I want to wire it to 3 zone valves and three thermostats. Thank you.

Get a Taco ZVC4 zone control panel and follow the wiring instructions.

The instructions that come with the Honeywell zone valves (also available on line) is easy to follow, OR you could get a Zone Valve control panel like the Taco ZVC-403 (or ZVC-404 if you plan to add a zone in the future) to make for easy trouble shooting in the future.

This is the diagram to use a Zone Control

This is the diagram to wire without the zone control

@EdTheHeaterMan for the diagram you provided above, is the System Circulator wired into the Crown AWR Honeywell Control Board in lieu of the ZVC?

That is how I wired my new Crown AWR Boiler and often times the pump will run for 2 to 3 seconds as the Zone Valve is closing, causing a loud “whoosh” noise to occur. I’m wondering if it’s safer to move the System Circulator 120V Wiring to the ZVC panel?

YES. to get rid of the woosh, this wiring diagram will do that for you in most cases.

@TNewm22 Connecting the circulator to the ZVC will stop the circulator at the same time as the zone valve call for heat is finished. With the circulator wired to the ARW boiler control there will be a one to three second delay on the circulator shutting off due to the zone valve end switch and the electronics in the ARW microprocessor control. this could cause the Woosh. However, if there is a second zone operating when the zone that is experiencing the Woosh thermostat is satisfied, you may still get that noise.

The only way to see if that will solve the problem is to try it.

This boiler ? Did it come with a circulator ?

    What brand and model?

yes, correct. Crown Aruba AWR 105BL Propane Gas with a Taco 007e ECM circulator.

I have the Pump on the supply side (pump away from expansion tank) and three (3) taco sentry 3/4” zone valves wired into the new Taco ZVC 403-5

I think over the course of a week or so that pump “learns “ you systems hydraulics and adjusts based on zone valves opening and closing. That should minimize the noise through the zone valves

That particular ZV closes quickly, that adds to whoosh potential. I’ve heard they increased the close off time a bit in newer models.

It is a ball valve type ZV. A ball stops flow by shearing it off so to speak, so there is a bit of noise to that type of closure.

I’ve been reading now that the Taco Sentry can be noisy. I removed older style 571s for the simplicity of the ball valve design, just didn’t anticipate the increase in noise!
