    I see a low water cutoff but don't see a burner. Almost looks like it was always coal but it must have had a burner

    I've often wondered about how pros feel about having to at least work next to these things all the time, if not working directly on them! You all concerned at all about exposure?
    New owner of a 1920s home with steam heat north of Boston.

    That unit is NOT properly encapsulated so I wouldn't go near it. Encapsulated its a non issue as long as its not disturbed. Fortunately less and less out there.

    It is unfortunate that all those asbestos fibers are just floating around that basement and people just are breathing it in whether that be knowingly or unknowingly.

    I hope when the new boiler was installed that encapsulation or removal of the asbestos insulation was part of the contract.
