wood boiler code question

Is it NFPA 211 that covers solid fuel boilers? Are their EPA requirements in play now for emissions. @Bob Harper anyone up to speed on code requirements for placement, venting, etc?

Not sure about NFPA, In Colorado, lot's of regs have popped up at the local level. Most areas require EPA 2 cert and distance to neighbors or minimum lot size.

    Hello Bob,

    NFPA 211:

"Standards for chimneys, fireplaces, vents, and solid fuel burning appliances".

The forest eaters especially (outdoor wood boilers/water stoves) have come under a lot more regulation and limitations in their allowable locations with regard to zoning.

I guess I may need to buy a download of 211 to get some answers, thanks.
Feel free to contact me with that other question on the buffer idea. PM me here or bob.rohr@caleffi.com

@hot_rod - what did you come up regarding the combustion analyzer?  I saw a nice used Testo 320 recently.  I believe the 320 has user replaceable CO sensor which would be good since I would only be using occasionally.

I'm leaning towards the Wohler 450. Touch screen, ap, everything on a single screen, no scrollong around for the different readings Found them for 1287 at test instruments

211 is just for combustion venting. You can view it for free online here: https://www.nfpa.org/codes-and-standards/all-codes-and-standards/list-of-codes-and-standards/detail?code=211
Solid Fuel-fired boilers are listed under UL 2523. Neither of these stds. cover emissions or efficiency. Here is from the EPA: https://www.epa.gov/residential-wood-heaters/fact-sheet-summary-requirements-wood-fired-hydronic-heaters . Here is an article that does a good job explaining some of the difficulties with efficiency testing of solid fuel fired boilers: https://woodboilers.com/wood-boiler-efficiency-and-epa-ratings/ . Meanwhile, a growing number of jurisdictions are outlawing them. You can also contact the Hearth, Patio, and BBQ Assn. in Arlington, VA and talk with their Gov't Affairs head, John Crouch. HPBA.org

Trying to find out what the code states about a locating a wood fired boiler in a shop or garage.
Absolutely no? Or sealed combustion allowable? Or 18" above the floor was once allowed.
