1st startup of the season for my one pipe steam boiler

It’s nearing the time I usually start up my steam boiler for the season. I just converted to a gas fed steam boiler and wondering if there is a check list of things that should be done before starting her up for the first time this season. It’s been sitting the whole summer and I was thinking the sediment in the water (if any) has a chance to settled so I was planning on draining the system and refilling to see what’s in there. Would this be a bad idea? TIA

Won't hurt. Probably won't find much, though. However... was the new boiler well skimmed when it was installed? If not, you'll be wanting to do that...

Don't bother draining the whole thing. As you said, the sediment is at the bottom, so just open up the drain(s) until the water runs clear. Maybe a gallon or two.

Do you keep your water at a certain PH?
