We replaced this leaking one and upgraded the main venting.

That's a nice looking job.
It's not often that you see the drop piping rather than pigtails under the controls/gages.
I usually will do that on a commercial job and not residential. I think that's an excellent idea.
Thanks for showing it.0 -

@Intplm. i can’t stand pigtails so we just took the idea of how we do it on commercial boilers.

The old one didn’t look very old— was it getting a lot of makeup water do you think?
I saw you recently did a Peerless install too—is that determined by the homeowner?NJ Steam Homeowner. See my sight glass boiler videos: https://bit.ly/3sZW1el0 -
Thanks Rob.
@ethicalpaul the old one needed water at least a few times a day. No the boiler make and model is determined by us. We install what’s best matching to the system.0 -
Thanks @EzzyT. I’m sorry I wasn’t clear—I meant before the boiler leak do you think that lots of fresh water input (from vent leaks, etc) contributed to its apparently short life? Or did it live a full life?
If you don’t mind sharing, what kind of differences between say WM and PB would come into play?NJ Steam Homeowner. See my sight glass boiler videos: https://bit.ly/3sZW1el0 -
Combination of a full life and leaks on radiator vents.
Different ratings between the two.
When purchasing a packed boiler like the 63 or EG series the Peerless don’t come with any plugs in which is a huge plus when it comes to installation.
Plus the Peerless’s have a heavier casting.
The WM skim tapping goes all the way through all sections which the Peerless’s don’t they only go through the 1st section.0 -
Amazing as usual, not that you need my praise.steve0
