    It does have an old steel compression/expansion tank above.

    Maybe used to add more mass to the system like a reservoir tank.

    @hot_rod where does the supply pipe come from on the boiler? I notice the circulators are pointing upwards, but I can't see how they get fed. Is that a bleeder facing us on the Thrush tank?
  • Good eye, Scott. It looks like the supply comes out of the boiler, goes into the Thrush device and the comes out the back to feed the circulators.
    It's a pass-through expansion tank!

    I've seen pass through compression tanks like that which had baffles to separate the air, but if there's a tank above, I can't see what function that would have.

    I’ve seen those. Combo air separator/compression tank. A product that didn’t live up to its hype.

    I am surprised the last installer reinstalled it... I was impressed with Thrush equipment , well made ...
    I have enough experience to know , that I dont know it all
