Maybe used to add more mass to the system like a reservoir tank.0

@hot_rod where does the supply pipe come from on the boiler? I notice the circulators are pointing upwards, but I can't see how they get fed. Is that a bleeder facing us on the Thrush tank?0

Good eye, Scott. It looks like the supply comes out of the boiler, goes into the Thrush device and the comes out the back to feed the circulators.
It's a pass-through expansion tank!8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour
Two btu per sq ft for degree difference for a slab0 -
I've seen pass through compression tanks like that which had baffles to separate the air, but if there's a tank above, I can't see what function that would have.
Maybe @DanHolohan would know?Bob Boan

I’ve seen those. Combo air separator/compression tank. A product that didn’t live up to its hype.Retired and loving it.0

I am surprised the last installer reinstalled it... I was impressed with Thrush equipment , well made ...
