Short Section of Level Pipe (not pitched)

I am attempting a single pipe system radiator installation this weekend. There is existing pipe in the crawl space that previously plumbed to a baseboard steam radiator on the opposite wall. It will make it easier to get a square connection at the union between valve and radiator if I have a short run (~12") of level (unpitched) pipe connected to the vertical leg that goes through up through the floor. Would short run of level pipe be a recipe for steam hammer?

If you look at some of the original piping for your 1 pipe system, you may see what is referred to as "swing 90's".
That lets you get slope on the horizontal run out and a plumb riser for valve alignment.

Looks like extra fittings but there is a reason for it.

Use 2 90° elbows to allow the pipe under the floor to pitch and the pipe going through the floor to be plumb. See picture.

    Great minds......... B)

You may need the same at the main take off as at the riser.

Swing 90 did the trick. The diagonal pipe was existing. I used a 45 and 3 90's to get up to the radiator. The pipe insulation is kinda crappy looking, but it works.

I am proud of my paint job on the radiator, valve and trim ring. Before shot taken in my neighbor's garage. Nice of him to gift it.

    Thanks for the compliments.

Prep was leak test, power wash, sand, and wash again, sun dried thoroughly. Many coats of standard walmart krylon applied. No high temp.
