Boiler Room

This is in the mechanical room of a house that had an extensive remodel six years ago with a permit, passed by the inspector.

And these were the B & G pumps, wired for 110 volts each.

8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour

Two btu per sq ft for degree difference for a slab

Was the inspector on the same drugs as the moron who installed the boiler?

You'd think that with all the times an inspector has cited 'workmanship' to push his pet peeves into the code, he'd remember that section of the code when he saw this.
  • I particularly liked the on-demand venting directly into the boiler room.

Is all that flex pipe due to you being in an earthquake zone?
On the Bosch it looks like 2 eyes, looking at me, trying to say 'Help Me'.

How well did that 230V pump motor fair connected to 115V?

    Yes.

I'd say the motor spun, but I can't say how much water it moved. The owner said the system was tepid at best.

He also was smart enough to realize that his system was a "Builders Special". The GC installed it and by the time he trimmed out the boiler room, he was running out of money. The PEX was non-barrier. Those pumps were bronze - $$$, but I'd say he probably had them laying around from a previous job.

We're replacing the Bosch with an IBC, model SL. I think he'll notice a difference.

There should be some sort of registry to list these types of subpar installs.
