in Strictly Steam
calling steam experts. trying to buy templilsticks as per page 258 Dan's new book. went on line and they seem to offer several temperatures. they show 200 deg and 225 deg sticks Dan refers to 213 deg. not sure witch temp to purchase. Thanks in advance for your help

    If that's your choice, and you are checking the traps and returns, the 200 is the one you want -- it shouldn't react on the returns more than a few inches from the trap.

    Depends on the steam pressure you are running. All traps will pass a little flash steam even when working correctly. There are all kinds of trap testers available. You can use an infared thermometer which will get you in the ballpark. You can also listen with a sthescope you should here the traps cycling. other options are $$$

    The more pressure you run the more flash steam you get and the hotter the condensate.

    All of which is why I love my IR thermometer -- if the trap is passing steam more than just a little flash steam, the outlet and the inlet will be very close to the same temperature, whatever it might be. If the trap is closing properly, the outlet will be at least a few degrees cooler...
