Industrial Burner Install

This is a job a couple co-workers of mine are starting. Hopefully I will be able to participate in the commissioning once it is ready. I haven't seen many industrial boiler posts so I figured I would share. This is an IC brand mesh burner that is going on a 1,500hp Cleaver Brooks high pressure steam boiler. The mesh burner is 10 feet in length and 2.5 feet in diameter. The other picture is the blast tube that the mesh burner will slide into which will be mounted on the front of the boiler.

As the job progresses I will try to update with more pictures.

What kind of process and pressure will the CB be running? 4 pass scotch marine type?

@Solid_Fuel_Man I’m not 100% sure what all of their processes are, but it’s a research facility so I’m sure they have autoclaves and the such. They heat the building with steam during the winter as well. I believe they’re running around 150psi.

Yep, 4 pass scotch marine. Old burner was a Natcom.

I like the CB scotch marine 4 pass, on water or steam. I've only worked on the dryback version though, with CB modulating oil burner.

The one the burner is going in is a wetback I believe. The only wetback CB I’ve seen. The dryback is much more common.

CB is one of my favorite boilers.

CB sells a lot of boilers. Not a fan of 4 pass boilers though. The tube sheets are subjected to wide ranging temperature differences. 4 pass also has a high pressure drop on the combustion side. Wetback is a lot better boiler also more expensive.

    JMHO

    Very interesting project though

The British Embassy has (or had) wetback firetube boilers. I haven’t been there in years but I used to service and even replace tubes in their boilers.

The British Embassy was the first building in the US to have radiant heating.

Another picture from my co-worker. Blast tube and burner mounted. Blower motor/intake mounted on top.
