You can't fix...

The company that got there before me apparently couldn't figure out why the burners were rolling out. So he jumped out the flame roll-out switch. I don't know why I'm still shocked by this stuff but I am.

Well brilliant enough to jump the roll out. To stupid to figure out why. No conscience. How could one sleep.

That is the most puzzling thing to me, Gordy. How can you do that and then walk away? I don't get it.

That's why it's always shocking Stephen. I wonder how much they charged to put the home owner in danger by being negligent at their proffesion Stephen?

One thing about it makes you a savior.....literally.

Edit: I would just love to hear the line of BS as to why they did that....would'nt you. Sky's the limit.

All I did was do the right thing as thousands of others would have. I'd much prefer going into a boiler room and be amazed at how good the work was : ).

If the work was that great - you wouldn't have to go into that boiler room. I suspect that person did that was to get the heat going and be done with it. - - thousands of others - - good luck with that. Are there that many guys stepping up to do the right thing? Maybe now, but everyone retires. The future will be difficult. We have an apprentice program here in Minnesota but I doubt it does what it needs to.

Is that q for me? Plugged up boiler sections. Dust and pet hair covering most of primary air inlet of burners. The color of my fingers tell the story.

It's a part of corrupt human nature: kill the messenger of bad tidings.
If a safety trips, then the safety is the problem; get rid of it. If a preacher tells us we're wrong, get rid of him. Let's get one that tells us we're okay.
No doubt, some won't like this post for the same reason.

Has anyone else noticed that this thread thread on "Steam setup right or wrong" are really talking about much the same thing? I'd add to the comments on both threads -- not only are our public schools not teaching much of anything useful (like, say, reading, writing, arithmetic, geography, history) they aren't even allowing any ethics or morals in the school building or grounds.

    Used to be...

I really worry about my granddaughters, because I don't have the money or even close to it to send them to private school or parochial school, and neither does my son. What does one do?

I agree Bob. Some people hear only what they want to hear.

Recently, I was asked to look at a mod con boiler serving a barn in a very wealthy town northwest of Chicago. Radiant floors throughout in a concrete pour. The barn was nicer than half the buildings I service in the city.

    Here's what I found -
Boiler running at 48# pressure! The boiler is rated at 30# max. The relief valve was replaced with a 50# valve. It's been this way for 8 years.

Every gasket within the boiler is leaking.

    Anti-freeze degraded to practically water.

Not piped P/S. It absolutely should have been.

    Terrible workmanship.

Surprisingly, combustion analysis was good. Although I don't like the fact that they're drawing combustion air from within the space. Gasoline vapors and horse manure fill the air.

I shut down the system and gave the owners a laundry list of repairs, upgrades. This was 3 weeks ago.

Since then, they've turned the unit back on and told me there's nothing wrong with the system.

You can't make this stuff up.
