a fine steam radiator installation

A customer encountered this fine 1-pipe steam radiator installation. Note the drip pan, the paint job...the seismic bracing. The copper runout! Exquisite!

    Surely you jest... but it is a nice radiator. And you have to admit that the soldering job on the copper at least looks good.

    It is a nice Rad. Maybe the the vent hole which would be on the bottom side lets the condensate run into that drip pan. They really thought this out! :)

    Wait, I was wrong. I now see the rust spot where it drains into the pan. This device is for humidification. It's one of those new "HumidiRads".

    If that small pipe drains through the floor, it would have to be well sealed at that point or why bother to have a drip pan in the first place?

    That pipe might drain into the basement, where they might be an air vent and a connection to a wet return. The pan may just be for a cool industrial look, or to keep people from getting too close. Just thinking about how I would make it work.

    There is a conflict of interest between the trim ring on the pipe and the corner of the pan.

    My wife agrees that the soldering job looks real good but the wall paint colors do not complement one another. (I thought the colors were fine together, but then...) Could you get an audio of what it sounds like? Personally I think they should move the pipe riser to correct that obivious conflict of interest of space sharing. (it would be one of the easier parts of the project).

    There's an easy fix for this thing. Turn it upright and put a vent on the side opposite the inlet. Why would they do this?

    Must be an air conditioner.....Zero output, with the loss due to the metallic paint. I don't know why you guys couldn't figure that out! It must be in an engineers house.

    I suppose if it was in a steam room it would vent and drain all it wanted, but those floors would be a gooey mess. I'll keep it in mind as a decorative steam nozzle/orgasmatron.
