Circulator placement in relation to elbows etc.

Where is the best place (how far) for a circulator to be in a circuit in relation to flow restrictions like elbows Ts, flow-checks etc? Is it advisable to have an elbow 10 pipe diameters before the inlet of a circ? What about after? Is there a rule of X number of pipe diameters as best practice or is it irrelevant in small resi. systems with flows under 15GPM? How important is laminar flow and where in the piping in relation to the circulator?

    That's a good one.

    One that I have run into on occasion is covered, but not specifically.

    With a horizontal run, turning down to a boiler, keep the 4 pipe diameters distance. If you make it a close connection with a tee into a boiler with another boiler below it, the turbulence of the laminar flow water trying to change to circular will drop the pressure and the water may not flow into the second boiler. No matter how big a pump you install. It will never be shown on a drawing like that. Just in the agony of the install. Trying to get 10# of boilers and piping into a 5# space,
