is that 2" to the top of the close nipple, or to the center of the nipple?  i guess the lower the better to avoid hammer, correct?

    I just did some reading to see what the manufacturers say about it.  Burnham v9 instructions simply say 2-4" from the normal water line.  Weil-McLain for the 80 series say 4" from the normal water line to the top of the close nipple connection of the Hartford loop.

    So, I would go with a measurement from the top, just to be safe.

    or Gifford?  I've read Henry's articles on it, but am curious if others here have direct experience with using a Gifford Loop.
