I'm looking to replace my old Munchkin T80 M with the new Elite but can't seem to grasp my head around what the difference is between the two?

    Heat exchanger ....

totally different. Munchkin is a Gianonni type... New Elite FT is more like a Triangle tube down fire type

    Lots

6:1vs3:1 turndown ratio. Slightly higher efficiency. Controls, condensate trap are all a step up.

The HX while not of fire tube nature like the TT, and the new Knights. It's a lower head hybrid Downfire type with baffles.

Why are you replacing the t80?

    elite

Change the boiler ONLY if you go to the new fire tube version.

The new ELITE boiler IS a vertical fire tube heat exchanger.

    Which elite

Maybe I'm mistaken, but ther is the Elite, Elite plus, and the Elite FT.

The elite has a 6:1 turndown

The elite Plus has a 10:1 turn down. Does not require P/S piping

the elite FT has a fire tube HX. With a 5:1 turndown. Does not require P/S piping.

OP was asking about the Elite.... To many choices one line FT with 10:1 turn down covers it.

    Elite FT

The Elite and Elite plus are very similar to the munchkin. Just different controls.

The Elite FT is the same exchanger TT and Lochivar is using. I would go with the FT or better yet, just buy a triangle tube.
