i regard the auto/over feed as being responsible for many boiler rot-outs as a result of the lack of attention [on the owner's part] which is then permitted.--nbc0 -

Yes, an existing steam boiler with float type low water cutoff can be retrofitted with a probe type LWCO and a separate electric water feeder. I just did this to mine.
Can any existing steam boiler be retrofitted with a probe type lwc and water feeder? Not necessarily. A water feeder can usually be added without changing the LWCO, and if a probe-type LWCO was available as an option on your boiler, you can probably install one on yours.Just another DIYer | King of Prussia, PA

Pay attention
if you do put an auto feeder on; as NBC says make sure there is a flow counter on it and that you pay attention to the dang thing.Br. Jamie, osb
