condenser, air to water

is it possible to convert an air to air condenser unit to an air to water unit with a suitable brazed plate heat exchanger on the refrigerant line?



has anyone done this?

    Yes, just use a standard water cooled condenser. Could be shell and coil, tube-in-tube, or plate.

    other than proper sizing, of course, any problems with this?



    I imagine it would be even better than normal, since water offers "buffer capacity" air can't. but I'm making that up.

    The only problem that might be encountered would be a lack of subcooling, resulting in flashing in the liquid line if there is a substantial rise in elevation where the evaporator is located higher than the condenser. As long as the liquid lift is less than 15 feet or so should be ok.
