Boiler efficiency

I have a customer that would like to calculate how efficient his boiler is. Is there a way to find out based on degree days of the year. This gentlemen has two houses One with a oil burner and One with a condensing boiler, he would like to see if one is more efficient then the other.

  • Condsening oil?, they`re out there,,,

Tell him to contact the fuel supplier,,, I`m sure they will give him the records of past years so he can work-it out for himself.

    Too many variables

Degree days is, of course, one of the major variables.  But there are a number of others -- as we all know! -- which can affect the amount of energy needed.  Exposure of the building.  Sun loads.  Infiltration rates.  Insulation.  Size of building.  Occupancy level.  Type of usage.  Not to mention such things as condition of the heating system.

    His fuel suppliers can

give all that too him. Especially the gas company as many gas bills now have a degree day on the bill. Then other factors can be calculated based on fuel bills gallons of oil versus therms of gas.
