My dad was killed yesterday in a car accident. His fault but at least the person in the other vehicle was treated for minor injuries and released from the ER.

Mom died 3 years ago and my grandma last year. I'm the only kid, and am long divorced with no kids, so now I'm legally "alone" in the world.

Dad had become involved with a woman who was their cleaning woman (my age) for a short while before mom died. "Nothing sexual" he told me, and I said, "Shouldn't it be?" She has a live-in boyfriend as well as a history of befriending vulnerable older men and collecting when they die. She has never contacted anyone in the family and has never attended any family event.

Dad sold his house and was in the process of moving into a trailer on her very rural property. Everyone was concerned as he's somewhat "special", overly kind-hearted and always had driving problems--almost countless accidents but mainly just minor low-speed accidents in town. Mom never let him drive on the highway alone.

Entire family thought she was just trying to take him for his money and nearly everyone tried to keep him from making this move.

Finally spoke with her, told her of dad's death. She was extremely emotional saying "I begged him not to move here," then in the next sentence said, "I loved him and wanted to take care of him for the rest of his life." Contradiction anyone?

Told her I was going to see dad's attorney and it was, "I don't want anything." Attorney calls bank. Guess what? They have a safety deposit box together and the proceeds from the very recent sale of his house are in an account with her as a beneficiary... Dad finally admitted to his brother a few months ago that he'd given her 30-40K. His checkbook was in the car and a "to do" list in his wallet and I can tell he'd been paying many of her bills.

The next few days are going to be awful. I can tell that his closest family members essentially blame this scheming woman for his death. I won't go that far as Dad seemed happy, but I also know how easy he was to manipulate.
